Malignant growth is a developing wellbeing worry in New Zealand and colorectal disease is the second most basic disease enlisted for the two people in New Zealand (MOH, 2012). Colorectal disease (CRC), regularly known as colon malignant growth or gut malignant growth is a dangerous tumor emerging from the internal dividers of digestive organ because of the uncontrolled development of cells in the colon or rectum. The reasons for colorectal disease are intricate however are typically a blend of acquired and natural elements. Most colorectal malignant growth happens because of way of life and expanding age with just a minority of cases related with fundamental hereditary issue (Black, 1993; Nugent, 2012; Waitemata District Health Board, 2006). Variables that expansion a personââ¬â¢s danger of colorectal malignant growth incorporates propelling age, family ancestry of colorectal malignant growth and polyps, the nearness of polyps in the digestive organ, provocative inside ailments, principally ceaseless ulcerative colitis and high fat admission ( Nugent, 2012). Mr. S is multi year old and had solid family ancestry of malignant growth. Aside from this he hasnââ¬â¢t got some other hazard factors for colon disease. He is a known hypertensive and had family ancestry of hypertension and myocardial dead tissue which expands his hazard for cardiovascular infections (Appendix. A). Pathophysiology: Structurally the internal organ is a long cylinder involved four layers. The inward mucosal layer through which the undigested food ventures, joined to the slim second layer, called the submucosa. The sub mucosal layer itself appended to a layer of muscle, the muscularis. The whole cylinder is encircled by stringy tissue called serosa. The most widely recognized tumors of the digestive organ (adenocarcinoma) emerge from the internal mucosal layer. These cells are presented to poisons from food and microorganisms alongside mechanical mileage and are continually vanishing and being supplanted. Disease of colon and rectum happens when the procedure of this typical substitution of covering cells leaves (Nugent, 2012). For reasons that are inadequately comprehended, these cells start to partition and develop freely, prompting the uncontrolled multiplication of anomalous cells. As these anomalous cells develop and separate, they can prompt developments inside the olon called polyps. Polyps are precancerous tumors that develop gradually over years and don't spread. Extra hereditary transformation of these polyps further destabilizes the cells and attacks different layers of digestive organ and gets dangerous (Black, 1993; Nugent, 2012). When framed, the colorectal malignancy develops in two different ways. First the malig nancy can develop locally by attacking the adjoining structures, making the mass called the essential tumor which is more earnestly to evacuate. Neighborhood augmentation prompts indications, for example, torment or totality, including blockages of the colon and close by structures. Second the malignant growth starts the procedure of metastasis by shedding various cells daily into the circulation system and lymphatic framework that can make tumors structure in particular areas. Colorectal malignant growths most ordinarily spread first to the neighborhood lymph hubs. When nearby lymph hubs are included, spread to the liver, the stomach cavity, and the lung are the following most regular goals of metastatic spread (Black, 1993; Nugent, 2012; Waitemata District Health Board, 2006). It is obvious from the data given that, (Appendix. A) Mr. S has stomach and liver metastasis and the nearby lymph hubs are additionally included. Side effects of colorectal malignant growth. Side effects of colorectal malignancy are various and regularly asymptomatic. Contingent upon the area, size and kind of disease suggestive introduction may demonstrate a moderately advance tumor. The manifestations of colorectal malignancy are regularly because of the development of the tumor into the lumen of the digestive tract or neighboring structures (American Cancer Society, 2012; Black, 1993). Right sided injuries are bigger and cause iron inadequacy paleness because of the moderate loss of blood over an extensive stretch of time and causes weariness, shortcoming, and brevity of breath. Tumors of the left colon are bound to cause halfway or complete inside hindrance, bringing about blockage, looseness of the bowels, limited stool, stomach torment, squeezes and swelling. Splendid red blood in the stool may likewise demonstrate sores of the lower colon or in the rectum (Black, 1993; Nugent, 2012). Mr. S gave checked changes in his entrail propensity with brilliant red blood per rectum alongside sharp squeezing stomach torment, characteristic of sores in the lower colon or in rectum (Appendix. A). What tests should be possible to identify colon malignant growth? Symptomatic tests are frequently performed when an individual displays the signs and side effects of colorectal malignancy or lab examines recommend a disease might be available. A total blood tally (CBC) is a standard analytic test that decides the measure of red and white platelets in the blood and assists with deciding if the patient has a contamination or frailty (American Cancer Society, 2012; Black, 1993; Nugent, 2012). Frailty can be an indication of malignancy and is frequently a symptom of chemotherapy. Barium bowel purge x-beam or colonoscopy is additionally performed to affirm the determination and find the disease. A barium douche includes x-beam imaging of the colon and the rectum after the patient is given a bowel purge containing barium. The barium plots the internal organ and the tumors and different anomalies show up as dull shadows on x-beams (Nugent, 2012). Colonoscopy is a method where a long, adaptable review tube is embedded into the rectum to investigate within the whole colon. On the off chance that colon polyps are discovered, they are typically evacuated through the colonoscope which forestalls the future improvement of colon disease from th

How to support a Gifted and Talented child in the classroom in Essay
Step by step instructions to help a Gifted and Talented youngster in the study hall in Mathematics - Essay Example The regular thought is that skilled kids, having capacities predominant than the rest, need less help with terms of instruction. Be that as it may, what is regularly disregarded is the way that these kids are not really, ââ¬Å"academically giftedâ⬠, as it were. Knowledge isn't limited to scholastics. In that capacity, a skilled youngster might be uncommonly proficient to perusing yet poor in number juggling. At the end of the day, skill doesn't envelop all fields, in opposition to normal conviction. Truth be told, analyst Howard Gardner has proposed Multiple Intelligence hypothesis, hypothesizing that there are really eight insight areas â⬠among them are music, phonetic and rationale and science (Visser, Ashton and Vernon 2006, p.487). Of these referenced areas, a significant subject of intrigue is Mathematics, which, as pointed by a few analysts, for example, Mji and Makgato (2006, p.253), most understudies are poor at. All things considered, given that the part of skill a s far as knowledge is multi-faceted, it is important to set up now how the idea of talent would be utilized in this paper. The subject of contention is the talented youngsters who, paying little mind to their keenness in different parts of insight, epitomize high ability in Mathematics. Proceeding onward, it was referenced that a great deal of understudies perform beneath normal in Mathematics; along these lines, because of this, different advances are taken to improve showing abilities of educators in teaching understudies in this subject. Be that as it may, of course, given the normal misinterpretation on talent, skilled kids are frequently disregarded in the study hall, with their uncommon needs ignored. Assorted variety of Experience and Learning In the book composed by Kennedy, Johnson and Tipps (2008, p. 40), it was contended that the point in managing talented kids isn't to make them arrive at an accomplishment level that is built up for every single normal understudy. Rather , backing ought to be outfitted towards addressing the necessities explicit to these youngsters. This is to state that kids have shifting encounters which may influence learning and execution (Bowman 1994). Overestimating the capacities of talented youngsters which may prompt unexpected disregard of their needs may frustrate them from accomplishing their maximum capacity. The current educational plan in most instructive framework is intended for normal understudies. In this situation, the normal understudies are profiting more in the educational plan since they are learning things while the skilled understudies are simply left tuning in to ideas that they have just aced. The normal understudies are constrained to study and practice so as to sharpen their aptitudes. Conversely, the talented understudies don't have to battle to learn. By and large, this experience has instructed them that everything comes out excessively simple; subsequently, they may not be as open to new thoughts as normal understudies do. Since talented understudies can without much of a stretch comprehend and get aptitudes because of the normal pace of instructing, they for the most part experience the ill effects of weariness and disappointment (Collins 2001, p.xiv). Further, since they are not tested, a large portion of them progressively need inspiration coming about to underachievement (Diezman, Faragher, Lowrie and Bicknell 2004, p. 8). Actually, there are talented understudies who don't perform well essentially in light of the fact that they need intrigue or are busy with compulsiveness (CCEA 2006, p.6). Over the long haul, this absence of inspiration may result to being abandoned, accomplishing things underneath their levels. In this way, it is essential to

Correspondence The Old-Timey Way Richmond Writing
Correspondence The Old-Timey Way Richmond Writing Location: Writing Desk A funny characteristic of the Millennial students who attend Richmond is their preference for old-school communication, at least after graduation. I guess Id expected them to invite me to some social networking site (a few have) but I get more letters than anything else. A printed card or letter comes as a shock to faculty who still remember when this medium was the default choice for communicating between two people at great distances. For a student writer, the letter or card shows real seriousness, and a faculty member is more likely to remember the writer. This is no small thing when a graduate comes asking for a reference or letter of recommendation (usually done online, these days). Today, as a break from grading final projects, Im answering printed mail. That used to be a large part of the day for many people who kept up correspondence with others. Since my stamps are SO old, Im running out to get some one-cent ones to avoid the recipient finding a postage due announcement (if the post office still does that). At times I miss letters. My handwriting is actually decent when I slow down and use my favorite pens. In the crush of answering e-mail, replying to blog-posts, and preparing for class, I do wonder what weve given up in the service of greater productivity. But usually Im too busy to think about that. If youd like to send me a letter, just drop me an e-mail first. Ill clear the desk and pen a reply.

How Bugs Find Their Way Into Your Food
Entomophagy, the practice of eating insects, has been getting a lot of media attention in recent years. Conservationists promote it as a solution to feeding an exploding global population. Insects, after all, are a high protein food source and dont impact the planet in ways that animals higher up the food chain do. Of course, news stories about insects as food tend to focus on the ick factor. While grubs and caterpillars are diet staples in many parts of the world, U.S. audiences tend to get squeamish at the thought of eating bugs. Well, heres someà news for you. You eat bugs. Every day. Even if youre vegetarian, you cant avoid consuming insects if you eat anything that has been processed, packaged, canned, or prepared. You are, without a doubt, getting a bit of bug protein in your diet. In some cases, the bug bits are intentional ingredients, and in some cases, theyre just by-products of the way we harvest and package our food. Red Food Coloring When the FDA changed food-labeling requirements in 2009, many consumers were startled to learn that manufacturers put crushed bugs in their food products for color. Outrageous! Cochineal extract, which comes from a scale insect, has been used as a red dye or coloring for centuries. Cochineal bugs (Dactylopius coccus) are true bugs belonging to the order Hemiptera. These tiny insects make a living by sucking the sap from cactus. To defend themselves, cochineal bugs produce carminic acid, a foul-tasting, bright red substance that makes predators think twice about eating them. The Aztecs used crushed cochineal bugs to dye fabrics a brilliant crimson. Today, cochineal extract is used as a natural coloring in many foods and drinks. Farmers in Peru and the Canary Islands produce most of the worlds supply, and its an important industry that supports workers in otherwise impoverished areas. And there are certainly worse things that manufacturers could use to color their products. To find out if a product contains cochineal bugs, look for any of the following ingredients on the label: cochineal extract, cochineal, carmine, carminic acid, or Natural Red No. 4. Confectioners Glaze If youre a vegetarian with a sweet tooth, you might be shocked to learn that many candy and chocolate products are made with bugs, too. Everything from jelly beans to milk duds is coated in something called confectioners glaze. à And confectioners glaze comes from bugs. The Lac bug, Laccifer lacca, inhabits tropical and subtropical regions. Like the cochineal bug, the Lac bug is a scale insect (order Hemiptera). It lives as a parasite on plants, particularly banyan trees. The Lac bug uses special glands to excrete a waxy, waterproof coating for protection. Unfortunately for the Lac bug, people figured out long ago that these waxy secretions are also useful for waterproofing other things, like furniture. Ever heard of shellac? Lac bugs are big business in India and Thailand, where they are cultivated for their waxy coatings. Workers scrape the Lac bugs glandular secretions from the host plants, and in the process, some of the Lac bugs get scraped off, too. The waxy bits are typically exported in flake form, called sticklac or gum lac, or sometimes just shellac flakes. Gum lac is used in all kinds of products: waxes, adhesives, paints, cosmetics, varnishes, fertilizers, and more. Lac bug secretions also make their way into medicines, usually as a coating that makes pills easy to swallow. Food manufacturers seem to know that putting shellac on an ingredient list might alarm some consumers, so they often use other, less industrial-sounding names to identify it on food labels. Look for any of the following ingredients on labels to find the hidden Lac bugs in your food: candy glaze, resin glaze, natural food glaze, confectioners glaze, confectioners resin, Lac resin, Lacca, or gum lac. Fig Wasps And then, of course, there are the fig wasps. If youve ever eaten Fig Newtons, or dried figs, or anything containing dried figs, youve no doubt eaten a fig wasp or two as well. Figs require pollination by a tiny female fig wasp. The fig wasp sometimes becomes entrapped within the fig fruit (which is technically not a fruit, its an inflorescence called the syconia), and becomes part of your meal. Insect Parts Honestly, theres no way to pick, package, or produce food without getting a few bugs in the mix. Insects are everywhere. The Food and Drug Administration recognized this reality, and issued regulations concerning how many bug bits are allowable in food items before they become a health concern. Known as the Food Defect Action Levels, these guidelines determine how many insect eggs, body parts, or whole insect bodies can get by the inspectors before being flagged in a given product. So, truth be told, even the most squeamish among us eats bugs, like it or not. Sources: The Truth About Red Food Dye Made From Bugs, LiveScience, April 27, 2012. The Gods Of The Ancient World - 1105 Words
Some of the Goddesses of the Ancient World The goddesses named in this chapter occur in the midst of the earliest pagan deities mentioned in numerous ancient writings; particularly, the ones frequently linked to the land of Canaan. In fact, several of the goddesses that promoted idolatry and prostitution exist directly in the King James Version of the Bible, such as Ashtoreth, Diana and Lilith. Although, the word ââ¬Ëprostituteââ¬â¢ exists only once (Lev 19:29), still, prostitution happens to be identified with various words; such as ââ¬Å"whore(s), whoredom(s). harlot(s), pollute or polluted;â⬠(which can mean prostitute) that encounters being mentioned frequently. The prophets of the Bible warned regarding whoring after other gods and goddesses andâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦For due to the goddess, routinely unmarried women, including those from the chief families in the country, befell being ordered to prostitute themselves in the temple at least once during their lifetime. Herodotusââ¬â¢ describes this ancient practice that exploited women sexually, stating: Emphatically, due to the goddesses, women and young girls required to have their virginity callously stolen awayââ¬âhow sick is that? Indeed, the paint brush of this practice appears to be broad among the fertility goddesses, for this domination became witnessed repeatedly in various lands; instigating unwanted pregnancy. Generally, the most vulnerable time in a femaleââ¬â¢s life occurs generally during pregnancy or the rearing of small children; therefore this reality helped evil cripple women into submission through the centuries. The following occurs as a brief summary of a few of the main goddesses in the land of Mesopotamia, the ancient Middle East and surrounding areas. Lilith Lilith became intertwined with Ishtar and Inanna in Babylonian as sacred prostitutes, and in the Old Testament her existence occurs subtly. Furthermore, Lilith became a sexual predator towards men and dwelled in desolate desert places as stated in the Bible. Along with other demons, Lilith occurs referenced in the Dead Sea Scrolls that contains an undeniable indication of Lilithââ¬â¢s reputation by being grouped with evil. Virtually, early portrayals of various demons identify with Lilith and became

Society with Soul Free Essays
A Society with Soul ââ¬Å"As the soil, however rich it may be, cannot be productive without cultivation, so the mind without culture can never produce good fruit. â⬠This quote by Seneca, a Roman philosopher, says that nothing good can ever come out of the absence of culture. Throughout history, many have argued that a society stripped of its culture is a society stripped of its soul. We will write a custom essay sample on Society with Soul or any similar topic only for you Order Now In the novel Things Fall Apart, the Ibo people are completely taken of their culture by the white colonialists. Despite a growing pattern of submission to new culture within the tribe, the people never truly lost their soul. The Ibo tribe was invaded by outsiders, their culture threatened with accusations on their way of life, worship, and customs, practically being forced into submission. The Ibo people may have been entirely stripped of their culture, but definitely not of their soul. Due to the colonialists attempting to assimilate the Ibo people, the tribe lost their culture but not the essence of who they are, allowing them to triumph against all odds. The white people pushed to assimilate the Africans, especially in their religion, ultimately tearing families apart and disconnecting the tribe. Obierika even says, ââ¬Å"The white man is very clever. He came quietly and peaceably with his religion. We were amused at his foolishness and allowed him to stay. Now he has won our brothers, and our clan can no longer act like one. He has put a knife on things that held us together and we have fallen apart,â⬠(Achebe 152). As the British colonized the Ibo tribes in Africa, they brought with them their new religion of Christianity. At first these new beliefs were not accepted by the Ibo people, but quickly became a major threat to their old way of life. The appeal of wealth and the flow of money into their village from British traders, in combination with support for the colonialistsââ¬â¢ new government and judicial system, eventually attracted many Ibos to convert to Christianity. Ibo society was torn in half, with some being lured in by the British, and others staying faithful to traditional Ibo customs. In addition, by the white missionaries seeking to convert children into their religion, there was no one to carry on the tribeââ¬â¢s traditions, resulting in the falling apart of the tribal system. The attempts of the colonialists to assimilate the Africans in religion caused families and the tribe to be divided. Despite these challenges, the tribe did not lose the essence of who they are and stayed true to a lot of the beliefs of their culture. The Ibo people were stripped of their culture by the colonialists, but they never lost their soul. Amidst the invasion of the white people, the Africans still found ways to maintain their beliefs and the essence of who they were. When Okoli killed the sacred python, he clearly went against traditional Ibo customs, but at the same time, he inadvertently reinforced Ibo customs. The Ibo people always look back to their culture for guidance and believe in it regardless of outside threats. Because it is all they have ever known, the tribe maintains their peaceful ways by deciding not to drive the Christians out with acts of violence, but rather, by ostracizing them. Soon afterwards, Okoli dies of an illness, which reaffirms the tribeââ¬â¢s trust in their gods. ââ¬Å"His death showed that the gods were still able to fight their own battles,â⬠(Achebe 141) and would rightfully punish those who went against them. It made the tribe realize that the gods were still with them, causing them to repeal the new policy of ostracism towards the converts. Furthermore, n the end, the colonialists may have ultimately drove Okonkwo to kill himself, forcing him to go against his culture, but in doing so, Okonkwo also reminded the tribe of their culture. In taking his own life, he reasserted Ibo beliefs, one of the tribesman even saying, ââ¬Å"It is against our custom,â⬠(Achebe 178) when asked by the District Commissioner why the tribe could not take Okonkwo down from the tree. The tribesman went on to say, ââ¬Å"It is an abomination for a man to take his own life,â⬠(Achebe 78). In spite of threats to their way of life and a growing disconnection of their tribe, the Ibos remained true to their culture no matter what. In conclusion, the Ibo people never lost what made them who they were despite challenges presented by the British colonialists. The white peopleââ¬â¢s attempt to assimilate Africans to the Christian faith resulted in the tearing apart of families, the disconnection of the tribe, and subsequently, the loss of the entire Ibo culture. Notwithstanding, the Ibo people did not lose their soul, or the essence of who they are. Regardless of accusations on their way of life and mounted submission to new culture, the Ibo people were undeterred by the threat of invaders. The Ibo tribe was a society entirely stripped of their culture that made it out on the other side not stripped of their soul. How to cite Society with Soul, Essay examples

Symbolize and meaning of Play Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Symbolize and meaning of Play - Essay Example The Christmas tree, Noraââ¬â¢s fancy dress costume and the Tarantella dance are powerful symbols which enhance the meaning of the play. The Christmas tree is a symbol of Nora herself. Nora presents a faà §ade to the world just like the tree is covered with glittering ornaments. She presents herself as a frivolous, carefree woman, whose husband calls his ââ¬Å"little skylark,â⬠ââ¬Å"little squirrelâ⬠and ââ¬Å"little song-birdâ⬠(Ibsen, I). She sparkles like the tree. However, the ââ¬Ëunornamentedââ¬â¢ Nora is a woman of great strength of character, who controls her husband, struggles with debt and is willing to sacrifice herself for her family. She is like the Christmas tree which she wants hidden and seen only ââ¬Å"when it is dressedâ⬠(Ibsen, I). As the tree appears denuded of ornaments at the start of Act II, it represents the Nora who is stripping away the outer decorations of her own personality to assert her true identity. Noraââ¬â¢s fancy dress costume is another graphic symbol in the drama. She puts on the costume of a Neapolitan fisher-girl, made for her by Helmer. Again, the dress demonstrates Noraââ¬â¢s superficial assumption of the role prescribed for her by her husband and society. Nora is the ââ¬Å"doll-wifeâ⬠(Ibsen, III) who Helmer dresses. She submissively tells him, ââ¬Å"Torvald, couldnt you take me in hand and decide what I shall go as, and what sort of a dress I shall wear?â⬠(Ibsen, I). As Nora sheds her assumed identity and prepares to reveal her true personality, she tells her husband that she is ââ¬Å"Taking off my fancy dressâ⬠(Ibsen, III). The torn dress also signifies the breaking-down of their marriage. The Tarantella dance is a very powerful symbol of Noraââ¬â¢s state of mind. Nora is deeply affected by Helmerââ¬â¢s condemnation of all deception as he says, ââ¬Å"such an atmosphere of lies infects and poisons the whole life of a home. Each breath the children take in such a house is full of the germs of evilââ¬

THE GEARED SYSTEM AND THE GEAR BOX Coursework Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
THE GEARED SYSTEM AND THE GEAR BOX - Coursework Example Theory has it that the larger the gear the less the revolution and the reverse are also true. But can this be explained experimentally? Questions that are of fundamental and the experiment seek answers to are: what is the gear system? What does the gear system entail? And last but not least, what objectives define this experiment? A gear is a common device that is used in transmission of power in engineering. It is an essential component in running of automobiles and machinery (Uicker 67). A geared system includes any system that is toothed and designed for transmission or receiving of motion by means of using successive engaged teeth. The wheel is called the larger wheel where as the pinion is referred to as a smaller gear. A gear is used in engineering situations. It facilitates the rotational speed, the transmission of power (torque) and the direction of output and input shaft. Simpler gear specifications occurs in a gear ratio whereby the ratio of the number of hearing teeth that are the driving gears to the numbers of hearing teeth on the driven gear could be more or less than one. In cases where value of the ratio is more than one, this will lead to a reduced driving rotational speed, and in cases where it is less than one, it could give an increased speed. This experiment seeks to study different gear arrangements and some uses of the gear system. An automotive gear is a gear system that is used in the automotive industry (Uicker 92). This gear gives out a high torque and converts the mechanical energy in a smooth and noiseless way. Turbine gears, on the other hand, are used in minimization of power and noise. Worm gears are gears that are used in driving of the tooth wheel rim that is positioned on the turbines bearing. The objectives set for this experiment was to study different arrangements of gears including worm gearboxes, automobile gear boxes, as well as, turbine reduction gear boxes. Theory. The important specification of the parameters of the g ears includes the number of the gears teeth (z), the circular pitch diameter of the gear (d), and the module (m). The module, m, can, therefore, be given by the following equation; m= d/z, d is the path diameter which could transmit equal motion as that of the actual gear by a pure rolling. The gear ratio or the torque ratio can also be termed as the mechanical advantage. For a basic gear train that has two gears, input gear drives output gear. The teeth of the gear are normally made in a manner that the pitch circles of one gear rolls on another without slipping (Uicker 42). The speed (v) of the contact point of the pitch circles are equal and are given by the following equation; V = r A w A = r B w B, where the input gear (GA) has a radius (r A) and an angular velocity (w A), where as the output gear (GB) has a radius (r B) and angular velocity (w B). The radius of the pitch circle is directly proportional to the number of teeth in gear. This, therefore, implies that the number of teethââ¬â¢s ratio is equal to the radiiââ¬â¢s ratio, that is W A/ w B= r B/ r A = N B/N A. Where N A is the input gearââ¬â¢s total number of teeth where as N B is the output gearââ¬â¢s number of teeth. Therefore, the gear ratio for a basic gear train is equal to; R= w A/ w B = N B/ N A. This equation implies that if the number of teeth in the input gear is smaller than that of the output gear, then the input gear has to go through a faster rotation in comparison with the output gear. Observations. The different types of the gear teeth were observed in the laboratory and their names and diameter recorded in the table shown below. Name of the gear Diameter of the gear(cm) 1st gear 13.50 2nd gear 7.25 3rd

The Turning Points In Three Stories English Literature Essay
The Turning Points In Three Stories English Literature Essay One of the most important aspects of a story lies in the dynamic interactions of the different characters in it. Specially, it is on the main character that the story mainly revolves around and thus, it has the power to direct readers attentions. The main character of a story is called protagonist and there can be more than one main character in a story. The things happen to the main character, the way they are being reacted and the consequences or effects they bring are important factors for drawing readers attentions. Katherine Anne Porter, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Zora Neale Hurston on their stories The Jilting of Granny Weatherall, Young Goodman Brown and Sweat are able to take their readers all the way down to the end by wounding the protagonists vanities through breaking what they value most: promise, trust and patience. Porters The Jilting of Granny Weatherall present the main character, Ellen Weatheral, also called Granny Weatheral, as a sick eighty-year-old woman who has been through up and down of life and now laying on her dying bed. On this last day of her life, flashes of memories [squeezes] out from her heart-both to satisfy and to frustrate her (Kennedy 82). Porter moves back and forth freely from the present realities to the past memories without visible time boundaries and confuses readers so that to show the confusions in the Granny Weathers mind. As the title itself foreshadow, Granny Weatherall had been jilted. Sixty years before, she was being left alone at the altar sweating inside a white veil and in front of an untouched white cake (82). By then her husband to be, George, did not show up at all. The feeling of being jilted was so devastating and it has been affecting her throughout her lifetime. However, as time passes, she is able to go through changes that to some extent heal parts of her wounded vanity. Even if he is not alive today, she wishes to let George knows that she is given back everything he took away and more' (83). Somehow, she is satisfied in her accomplishments in life. After he jilted her, she married another man called John and bore four children with him. Even though John died at a younger age, she was successful to raises the children alone. She fantasizes the memories and [wishes] the old days were back again with the children young and everything to be done over (81). Some twenty years before, she was assuming of dying soon. However, death had never come by. Now, at the time she less think of it and unprepared for it, it comes to her as an endless mass of darkness. Even thought she hates the surprise, she believes that she has already secured a straight road to God (84). Her life, as a dot of light in the bottomless of the darkness, is waiting sign from God so that to be taken to heaven. God might be late or does not come at all. Nevertheless, Granny Weatherall, as a person who had been jilted before, has no courage to withstand the feeling and to wait. She once again feels being jilted. However, this time it is by what she value most and theres nothing more cruel than this-[she]ll never forgive it' (85). With this break of the promise of eternal life, her self-importance become permanently lost and she decide to end her life by blowing out the spot light. On the second story, the Young Goodman Brown, Hawthorne presented a young man called Young Goodman Brown who is newly married with a young woman, called Faith. Hawthorne used such symbolic naming so that to magnify the roles of the characters. The story opens with Young Goodman Brown leaving to a forest at night with a curious evil purpose -a mysterious journey to see the devil (420). When he leaves home, he feels sad for abandoning Faith at night and promises for himself that this will be for once and for all. However, what he is going to experience at this night would change him far more than what he imagined. While Brown fearfully hurries into the forest, he encounters an old man who seems the devil himself. Soon after, Brown feels bad and begins cursing himself for being the first to participate in such wickedness in his family line, whom he assumed them as a race of honest men and good Christians' (421). The traveler argues by evidencing himself as collaborator of Browns ancestors while they were committing crimes of persecution and genocide. Later on, Brown noticed an old woman, who had thought him catechism as youth and who currently is his counselor, proceeding into the darkness. Even though this tempted him for a while, he realizes that this womans choice to ruin her life has nothing to do with him and decides to stop to move forward-hoping to return home. However, before long he hears horses riders and recognize the voices of the minister and Deacon Gookin, discussing about the exciting meeting and the attractive young woman they are going to see (424). Even later, he recognized th e voices of his villages peoples whom he presumes them as good peoples. The whole thing shocked him to death! However, even with all these, he is still determined to resist the wicked: [with] heaven above and Faith below, I will yet stand firm against the devil!' (424). Nevertheless, after a while he hears the voice of his dear Faith and sees the pink ribbon, which was in her head when he left home, flying down to the tree in the forest. This collapses him; he loses his trust in humankind completely and acknowledges, [there] is no good on earth' (425). This is the turning point where he rejects the vanities of the world and his moral code becomes completely paralyzed. In resentment and grief, he rushes to the congregation. At some point after he reached, when he was not able to find Faith there, he was hoping that his backsliding would heal. Yet, the one look at his pale wife makes the change irreversible (428). This fearful experience, whether it was dream or reality, make him to lead a distrustful and gloomy life afterwards. Lastly, in her story, Sweat, Hurston present the main character, Delia John, as a suppressed and exploited washerwoman who is married to an oppressive husband, Skyes Johns. Even if she has been in this abusive relationship for fifteen year, they had different expectations from the beginning: [she] had brought love to the union and he had brought a longing after the flesh (531). Throughout their life together, he has been mistreating her both physically and mentally, wasting her money and cheating frequently on her. However, still she is trying to cope with the situation by neglecting him and by [avoiding] the villagers and meeting places in her efforts to be blind and deaf(534) Even if she tried to bring peace back piece many times, he refused to do so as he has now another intention. Now, he wants to throw out Delia as sugar-cane' and lives with another woman at Delias house (533). While he knew that she has an extreme fear for snake, thinking it would help him to push her out, he allows a rattlesnake to stay at the house. One time, when she complains that she is starving, as she is not able to go to the kitchen for fear of the snake, he affirms her that he has no plan to get rid of the snake at all. At that moment, her love to him grow blurred-Ah hate you tuh de same degree dat Ah useter love yuh. Ah done took an took till mah belly is full up tuh mah neck.'(535) However, it seems that he is not yet thrown out completely. She still hopes that he might feel regretful: [perhaps] he was sorry (536). On the next day, while she comes home with relaxed mood from church and after she began working inside the house, she finds out that the snake is inside. Frightened to death, she is manages to escape and to lie on the barn of the house. While she is there, coherent thought comes toward her mind and she begins to make self-examinations (536). She realizes that, her life is now endangered and it is vivid that Skyes wants to kill her. She also becomes conscious that, it is futile to fight for this unfortunate marriage and there will nothing she will regret about: Well, Ah done de bes Ah could. If things aint right, Gawd knows taint mah fault' (536). After that, Skyes entered to the house and attached by the snake. As she is already utterly broken and wounded, even though she can hear his horrible screams, she does not have the gut to help. Even at the end, she rather wants him to realize she had been there the whole time he was being attached. These three stories are similar in that they all have a turning point in which the main characters totally wounded their vanity. However, each was used for different purposes. Porter used that point to conclude the story as a loser, Nathaniel for brining permanent behaviors changes and Hurston for ending suppressions and miseries.

The Short Stories Of Haruki Murakami English Literature Essay
Within The Elephant Vanishes, an anthology of short narratives by Haruki Murakami, and The Outsider, a novel by Albert Camus, civilization is examined and the reader is invited to see civilization as following set regulations and modus operandis. Through the supporters, the reader understands that civilization observes these behaviors without inquiry and in making so are robotic. One of the ways this thought is reinforced through mentions to nutrient. Food is shown to fall in people ceremonially and who you portion your nutrient with reveals penetrations about the civilization in which you live. Through the action of the texts and first individual narratives the supporter is established as different to the civilization. In the short narrative, Sleep, the supporter noted, ââ¬ËI went to the life room, switched on the floor lamp beside the couch, and sat there imbibing a full glass of brandy ââ¬Ë ( page 84 ) . Although she enjoys intoxicant, she has to imbibe by stealing. She is restricted in her freedom to bask intoxicant because her hubby does non O.K. of it. Her hubby ââ¬Ës business as a tooth doctor precludes her from eating cocoas until an inadvertent reminder of old cocoa flakes wedged between the pages of the book ââ¬ËI found a few crumpling flakes of cocoa stuck between the pages ââ¬Ë ( page 90 ) . She was so inspired to liberate herself from the bonds of her hubby ââ¬Ës dental fraternity norms. She unashamedly indulged herself on this pleasance impetuously, ââ¬ËI felt a enormous impulse to hold the existent thing ââ¬Ë ( page 90 ) . In Sleep, clocking for tiffin is exactly at 11 40, ââ¬Å" aÃâ à ¦ I looked at my ticker. Eleven Forty. Eleven Forty! â⬠( Page 91, Elephant Vanishes, Sleep ) . The typical type of nutrient was, ââ¬Å" aÃâ à ¦minced scallionsaÃâ à ¦buckwheat noodlesaÃâ à ¦dried seaweedaÃâ à ¦tofu â⬠( page 91 ) . The mention to the exact clip and the type of tiffin indicate modus operandi. ââ¬Å" aÃâ à ¦Cup of coffeeaÃâ à ¦two pieces of staff of life, spread them with butter and mustard, and had a cheese sandwich â⬠( Page 89 ) , something which the supporter wants to get away from. It is merely when she breaks with the conventional regulations that she feels as though she is populating. The hubby sitting on the couch reading the newspaper shows the cultural modus operandi of people in their mundane life, ââ¬ËWhile I cleared the tabular array, my hubby sat on the couch reading the paper ââ¬Ë ( page 92 ) . ââ¬ËI made my hubby his usual java ââ¬Ë ( page 89 ) . The supporter is cognizant of cultural outlooks of which her hubby tenaciously adhere to populating through the same everyday every twenty-four hours. ââ¬ËAnna Karenina lay there beside him, but he did n't look to notice. He had no involvement in whether I read books ââ¬Ë ( Page 92 ) . The hubby did non pay attending to his married woman ââ¬Ës involvements or in the fact that it was his ain book, which she was reading. It is the everyday and humdrum that he is occupied with the supporter lives through every twenty-four hours making whatever gives her pleasance. This rareness of freedom necessarily leads her to seeking nutrient for pleasance while the hubby, so ingrained in modus operandi, appears robotic. Although nutrient symbolically represents modus operandi in The Outsider, it besides establishes Meursault as an foreigner of the civilization. Both of Mersault ââ¬Ës friends, Masson and Raymond ââ¬Ës immoral behavior has the civilization sort them as foreigners. Due to their unusual behaviors, when these people meet to bask nutrient together, it demonstrates that they encompass similar features of personalities which are deemed unconventional from cultural outlooks. The protagonist drinks wine to attach to nutrient with Raymond and Masson ( page 53 ) . In this context, imbibing intoxicant is an acceptable pattern and civilization, both for work forces and adult females where it was observed by Mersault that Marie, his girlfriend ââ¬Å" aÃâ à ¦she ââ¬Ëd had a spot excessively much to imbibe â⬠( page 53 ) . However, the fact that when Marie, commented, ââ¬Å" Do you cognize what clip it is? It is half past 11 â⬠( page 53 The Foreigner ) , a fact acknowledged by Masson when he responded, ââ¬Å" aÃâ à ¦the clip to hold tiffin is when you are hungry â⬠( page 53 The Foreigner ) , indicates that for Masson, nutrient is an person ââ¬Ës pick non regulated by outlooks of a fixed agenda. At his place, Mersault appears to prefer ââ¬Å" aÃâ à ¦ smoke, and eating chocolatesaÃâ à ¦ â⬠during mealtimes ( page 26 ) The Outsider, while he watched the people below his flat from his gallery. In the text, Meursualt made brooding observations of people that were dressed otherwise within the local community that went passed the street, ââ¬ËHe was have oning a straw chapeau and a bow tie and transporting a walking-stickaÃâ à ¦ I understand why local people said he was distinguished ââ¬Ë ( page 25-26 ) . This reveals the distinguishable behavior of Meursault alongside the normal behavior of the civilization. Similarly, Meursault was besides recognised by the persons that went passed the street, ââ¬ËThe local misss, with their hair down, were walking weaponries in armsaÃâ à ¦ I knew several of the misss and they waved to me. ââ¬Ë ( page 27 ) . Later in the eventide Mersault ââ¬Å" went down to purchase some staff of life and some pasta, did my cookery and I ate standing up â⬠( page 28, The Outsider ) , a position of which is non dictated by conformist pattern. Mersault ââ¬Ës behavior and penetrations uncover how persons within the community stand out by their mere visual aspect that are easy recognizable that identifies them to be ââ¬Ëdifferent ââ¬Ë or ââ¬Ëdistinguishable ââ¬Ë . In add-on, Meursault does repair his eating agenda by a peculiar clip. This farther confirms that he is an unplanned and disorganised individual unlike the ââ¬Ërobot adult female ââ¬Ë ( page 45-46 ) The Outsider. The automaton adult female ââ¬Å" aÃâ à ¦while she was waiting for her hors d'oeuvre she opened her bagaÃâ à ¦took the exact amount plus a tipaÃâ à ¦meticulous undertaking occupied her throughout the repast â⬠( page 46 ) The Outsider. The robot adult female contradicts Meursault ââ¬Ës character, in that he would instead follow his peculiarity with respects to most of his determinations about when, how, where and what to eat. The robot adult females on the other manus, showed the features of order and way when she ordered her repast, ââ¬ËShe called Celeste over and ordered her whole repast at one time, talking exactly but quickly. ââ¬Ë ( page 46 ) of which afterwards she ââ¬Ëdived into her bag once more and took out a bluish pencil and a maga zine which gave the wireless programmes for the hebdomad. One by one, she really carefully ticked about every programmeaÃâ à ¦ ââ¬Ë ( page 46 ) . From this rigamarole, the automaton adult female ââ¬Ës actions seem to follow a set of modus operandi. In the narrative, The Second Bakery Attack, the supporters were freshly married and did non pre-empt carrying nutrient in their house, ââ¬ËOur icebox contains non a individual point that could be technically categorized as nutrient ââ¬Ë ( page 37 ) . ââ¬Å" aÃâ à ¦a bottle of Gallic dressing, six tins of beer, two shrivelled onions, a stick of butter, and a box icebox deodorizer â⬠( page 37 ) . This is a symbol of how empty their lives are. Although they work, go to bed at set times, conforming to the modus operandis of work, they are metaphorically, unsated. The twosome ââ¬Ës conformist behavior seems to put them to their ââ¬Ëhunger ââ¬Ë . In order to happen a remedy to interrupt their hungriness, the twosome opposed convention by robbing Mc Donald ââ¬Ës, ââ¬ËAttack another bakeshop. Right off. Now. It ââ¬Ës the lone manner. ââ¬Ë ( page 43 ) . During the robbery, the director of the shop showed typical features of conventionality by the demands o f conformation from the upper authorization stating, ââ¬ËI ca n't make that. I ââ¬Ëll be held responsible if I close up without permission ââ¬Ë ( Page 46 ) . From this, it shows that the larger bulk of the civilization such as the director and workers are similar to the automaton adult female in that their lives are dictated by order and modus operandi and merely a really little proportion of people operate in a non-conformist manner. Finally, in The Wind-up Bird and Tuesday ââ¬Ës Women, the supporter cooks spaghetti for breakfast. He chooses to populate outside the modus operandi of the civilization and this is reflected by his pick of cookery and eating spaghetti in the forenoon, ââ¬Ë â⬠Spaghetti? ââ¬Å" aÃâ à ¦ ââ¬Ë It ââ¬Ës merely ten-thirty in the forenoon. What are you making cooking spaghetti at ten-thirty in the forenoon? â⬠( page 5, The Wind-Up Bird and Tuesday ââ¬Ës Women ) asked the adult female who telephoned place for 10 proceedingss of his clip. In both The Elephant Vanishes by Haruki Murakami and The Foreigner by Albert Camus, nutrient are focused as a symbol that represents modus operandi or an person ââ¬Ës desire to hold freedom. The function of the characters is reflected in the type of nutrient they chose to eat, where and when the repartee of nutrient takes topographic point. When any of these engagements of nutrient varies, one can spot that these characters may be far-out, bizarre or stand-alone in their relationship to the larger civilization. ( Word Count: 1428 )

What Makes A Melting Pot - 1168 Words
The concept of a ââ¬ËMelting potâ⬠is an idea that America is known for and accustomed to for years and years to come. Unfortunately, that analogy leads people to get rid of their culture for the American culture. One demographic, African Americans, have been trying to reconnect to their native heritage after being stripped from their identity years ago. The poem speaks about the discrimination experienced by those immigrants. Each of the stanzas consists of four lines (quatrain), except the third and the fourth, which are couplets, and they have rhymes at the end of several lines (Welcome). For the writer this rhyming sound is necessary, that is why in the first stanza he writes ââ¬Å"girl or man,â⬠which usually would be girl and boy, or woman and man, to make it rhyme with

Evidence For Pro Metastatic Role Of Tams Genetic Studies
Evidence for pro-metastatic role of TAMs: Genetic studies in mice have shown decreased rates of tumor growth and metastasis are associated with decreased TAM numbers. Lin and colleagues crossed a transgenic mouse susceptible to mammary cancer with mice containing a recessive null mutation in the CSF-1 gene (Csf1op) and compared tumor progression in wild-type and mice lacking CSF1. Of note, CSF1 is an important survival factor for macrophages. They observed that the absence of CSF-1 significantly reduced lung metastases. However, transgenic expression of CSF-1 in the mammary epithelium of both Csf1op/Csf1op and wild-type tumor-prone mice led to accelerated disease progression and to a significant increase in lung metastasis, which was associated with an enhanced infiltration of TAMs into the primary tumor. In this mouse model, they also observed that TAMs play a crucial role in the ââ¬Ëââ¬Ëangiogenic switchâ⬠when hyperplastic lesions develop into early stage mammary carcin omas. Similarly, in another study using transplanted tumors, CSF1 depletion resulted in an impairment of tumor growth accompanied with extensive necrosis and poor vascularization, which could be reversed by treatment of mice with CSF1 (Nowicki). These studies provide strong evidence that TAMs promote malignant tumor progression. TAMs promote cancer cell invasion and intravasation: The mechanisms by which TAMs promote metastases are numerous. Analysis Of Aurelius Augustine A Treatise On The Gift Of...
In an attempt to refute the views of a theologian named Pelagius, Aurelius Augustine published a work entitled ââ¬Å"A Treatise on the Gift of Perseveranceâ⬠, and in this work he explains a view on the gift of perseverance that is not fully in line with what scripture teaches. First I will describe Augustines ideals and stance on Perseverance of the Saints. I will continue by describing that his stance on this topic matter is not entirely coherent with scripture, and then show the overall result his doctrine has had on reformed theology. I will then argue against Augustines doctrine of perseverance from a strictly scriptural standpoint, and show that Augustines use of scripture is not fully encompassing of the whole truth. Aureliusâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In the year 391, Augustine became presbyter of Hippo, which eventually led to his succession of Bishop of Hippo in 396 (ODonnell). While serving as Bishop of Hippo Augustine went on to publish many works that would passi onately describe his views in an exquisite manner. Several of Aurelius Augustines works were formed in opposition to the views of other christian sects such as his Anti-Donatist, and Anti-Manichean writings. One of Augustines more famed and influential works is his writings against Pelagius. Pelagius was believed to have been born around 354, and his birth place is widely debated upon as being either Britain, or Ireland, and was believed to have died around 418 in Palestine. Pelagius became a well known theologian and felt convicted by the yielding morality of the Romans. He felt that the reason for this very relaxed moral code was due to the view of divine grace. Pelagius believed and preached that mans free will, and own focus on God, would earn them spiritual advancement. This conviction led Pelagius to author his work ââ¬Å"De Libero Arbitrioâ⬠, or ââ¬Å"On Free Willâ⬠. In this work, Pelagius defended his view that spiritual advancement required a great deal of huma n effort, and that an idea such as perseverance could cause a great deal of moral laziness on the part of Christians. Pelagius published many works on his doctrines, that were often in direct contrast to the views of Augustine, including his view on original

A Comparison of Two Poems About Love Essay Example For Students
A Comparison of Two Poems About Love Essay The two poems I have chosen on the theme of love are Porphyrias Lover by Robert Browning and Stop All The Clocks by W.H Auden. Porphyrias Lover, a dramatic monologue was written as a piece of entertainment in Victorian times, it would have been acted out to an audience. The narrative of this poem is that Porphyria was seeing someone below her own social class and no one knew about their relationship. She left the party early to go and see him as shown in the lines When glided in Porphyria ; strait she shut the cold out and the storm even they both knew that they could never be together forever. Stop All The Clocks is about the death of a much loved partner , The speaker wants all the ordinary thing in his life to stop happening and he also wants the whole world to stop. Now he has lost the love of his life he has no reason to go on any more, as shown in the lines Stop all the clocks, cut of the telephone, prevent the dog from barking with a juicy bone Porphyrias Lover a very dramatic monologue as shown in the lines and strangled her. No pain felt she, I am quite sure she felt no pain. This shows that there is a use of dramatic language, he did not want her to feel no pain because he loved her, it also emphasises the point that she is dead. This poem is written as one long story, consisting of one long stanza. The poem is written in first person as if there is an imaginary speaker, the young man. No one knows who he could be, perhaps Browning heard about the story from real life and turned it onto a poem. Although there are very clear descriptions of both of them, as shown in the lines dripping cloak and shawl and laid her soiled gloves by, untied her hat and let the damp hair fall this helps you to see a reasonable description of how she looked that night. In Porphyrias Lover the speaker of the poem is in a deep mood of depression, shown in the lines the rain set early into the night, the sullen wind was soon awake this describes the characters mood but it also mirrors the weather and sets the scene of the poem, the young man also seems very lonely and depressed, I listend with a heart fit to break this shows that the man I very heartbroken and he just wants to be loved by her and he wants to be with her forever as shown in the lines and give herself to me forever, but he knows that it will never happen, as shown in the lines made my heart swell, and still it grew while I debated what to do! Throughout this poem there are several uses of alternate rhymes: awake and lake, warm and form and straight and grate. These words help the poem to flow and to unify it. The poem Stop All The Clocks by W.H Auden is a lot shorter and it consists of four equal stanzas and each one consists of four lines. This poem is much shorter and simpler. This helps the reader of the poem to understand the poets emotions. Unlike Brownings poem this poem expresses there feelings of someone who has lost of his loved one, as shown in the lines for nothing now can ever come to any good. The poem does not explain what has happened, it tells you how the man is feeling and about his loss, as shown in the lines My north, my south, my east, my west this shows that his loved one meant the world to him, and he now feels directionless and he doesnt no were to go or what to do. Also about his emotions and that he is grieving, as shown in the lines silence the pianos and with muffled drum, bring out the coffin, let the mourners come .The poem explains how the man is dealing with the loss of his loved one. The writer expresses his feelings very strongly, he thinks that his world has ended as shown in the lines pack up the moon and dismantle the sun. Also that he has no reason to live any more. The speaker uses his feelings to tell other people that may be in his position when they have lost their loved one. As shown in the lines Let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead the word moaning shows the grief that the speaker is feeling through the use of personification. It also gives the reader a sense of great loss. The feelings expressed in the poem overall devastation, leaving the reader of the poem in deep sympathy for the man because he seems lost without his long lost loved one, as shown in the lines my working week and my Sunday rest. He just wants his life to end, and everyone else to notice that he cant hack being alone by him self, so lonely, shown in the lines Pour away the ocean and sweep up the wood; for nothing now can come to any good. The communication aspects of the "Dead Poets Society" EssayThe woman in this poem is very out of touch and old fashioned as shown in the linesand made her smooth, white shoulder bare, and all her yellow hair displaced This shows that she was putting her shoulder on show on purpose, she was being very provocative because having your shoulder or legs showing in those days meant that you were being very open and provocative. Whereas nowadays if you did that everyone would not think any less of you and its known to be normal. By doing this she made the man think that she wanted him to see all of her flesh and that he felt happy and wanted because of the provocative way that she was acting. The man in the poem is in a much lower social class to the women and this is why they cant be together for ever. She is from a wealthy family and her father would have been an important person whereas the man in the poem was just a peasant compared to her family. He knows they would not approve and they certainly would not let their daughter marry him. However in Stop All The Clocks which is a 20th century poem nothing is mentioned about their social classes, because people these days dont really worry about that type of thing. These two poems are totally different, although they are about the same subject; one is more modern than the other one. In Porphyrias Lover the poet compares the dead lover to a shut bud. This is very weird as shown in the lines I am quite sure she felt no pain. As a shut bud that holds a bee , He murdered her, but he did not want to cause her any pain because he loves her. The metaphor a bee in a shut bud is used because a bee could not escape from a shut bud, just like Porphyria could not escape from him, also she was being held gently and a bee in a shut bud is held gently. Porphyrias Lover has a moral to the poem and Stop All The Clocks does not really have one. The moral of the Browning poem is to warn young ladies like her not to have a secret relationship with anyone especially if they are of a lower social class than you. The warning is to avoid falling in love with anyone thats not suitable and dont disobey and lie to your family about what youre doing and where you have been or where youre going. Stop all the Clocks is a clear expression of feelings when someone who is loved dies, most people cam relate to how painful death is. Personally I prefer the poem Stop All the Clocks By W. H. Auden; there are many reasons for this. Its a more modern poem, and it makes more sense to me. I like the use of metaphors and how they show the feelings of the speaker, He was my north, my south, my east, my west, my working week and my Sunday rest. This compares the love for the dead person with the points of a compass, which shows how big and strong the love was. However I dont think that there was no purpose to this poem when it was wrote, even though the words and feelings used to describe the feelings of the speaker do explain a lot and they tend to give you an impression of what has happened and what they have lost, it also tells you what it can feel like to loose someone close to you. Although if the reader has lost someone then they can relate to the poem and the feelings that have been described in the poem much more. The use of repetition adds impact on the thoughts of the reader, as shown in the lines my noon, my midnight, my talk, my song. When repetition is used it forces the message across to the reader, in this case the message was that the heart broken lover who lost there loved one is saying that his lover was only his and no one elses, also no one else would understand his feelings because o one would understand why he was hurting so much. The final reason why I preferred this poem to Porphyrias Lover is because the heart broken man just wanted everything in the world to stop as shown in the lines pack up the moon and dismantle the sun and I can understand that and it made me feel sympathy for him. The reason why he wanted everything to stop was that he had no reason to carry on in life. He has lost the person who was the centre of his world and he is now lost because he is by himself. This poem is a very expressive poem and it explains his feelings and what he is going through.

Camilla woke up on something hard, most likely the rough stone ground. All around was the darkness, as it engulfed all certain possibility of light. She could barely move. She thought she was paralyzed, but then realized she could easily move her legs. She twisted around and propped up on one elbow, trying to stand up. She balanced, but then fell down again, sprawled against the cold. She sighed, breathing heavily, using all her energy. She thought she could hear voices, but thought nothing of it. But then, she heard someone speaking. ââ¬Å"Shut up and come on!â⬠She heard a male voice snap. ââ¬Å"I love her though!â⬠Another voice replied. Then it was silence. Camilla suddenly knew where she was. She was in the cave, the cave from her dreams. But how did she get here? Her head was aching and she felt so bleary she couldnââ¬â¢t remember anything. The voices began to speak again. ââ¬Å"You canââ¬â¢t,â⬠the second voice whispered. ââ¬Å"Well, I do,â⬠the first voice replied, almost arrogantly. ââ¬Å"How dare you!â⬠ââ¬Å"What?â⬠ââ¬Å"Youâ⬠¦ youâ⬠¦ you donââ¬â¢t love her! Youââ¬â¢re just saying that!â⬠ââ¬Å"No, thatââ¬â¢s not like it at all,â⬠the first male voice answered, kind of sarcastic. Camilla was confused. She then remembered who the voices wer e. Haden and Seth. But they sounded so alike that she couldnââ¬â¢t remember which one the voices belonged to. ââ¬Å"Yes, it is! You didnââ¬â¢t even want her to come. You wanted to abandon her back at the castle. Youââ¬â¢re a backstabber, you know that? You pretended to be her friend. You canââ¬â¢t love her. You canââ¬â¢t even like her!â⬠Yes! That was Haden. Haden was the one who got all jealous and angry and then he decided to ââ¬â Camilla choked, thinking what was soon to happen. ââ¬Å"She already told me that she loves me, though, too.â⬠ââ¬Å"No! Youââ¬â¢re lying! Youââ¬â¢ll just hurt her, and I wonââ¬â¢t allow that to happen! Youââ¬â¢re going to pay! Donââ¬â¢t even try to come near her!â⬠ââ¬Å"What? Hey, what are you doing?â⬠Camilla could suddenly hear an earsplitting crack, as if a bone broke. She then heard that Haden and Seth were fighting. She tried to move, her hand groping out for something to pull her up. She tried to scream, but only a faint croak came out. She tried louder. It came out as a whisper. She tried and tried. The fighting then stopped, as she heard someone fall to the ground. She tried harder to scream, hoping she could stop it if she did. She then heard him crawling, and grabbing something. She heard a click. Camilla yelled. Suddenly a thunderous explosion exploded. It sounded so because it was coming from the cave. Camilla then screamed as loud as she could. She realized it was she who screamed in her dream. She cried and felt blind there in the darkness, tears streaming down her face, her heart hurting. She heard the person who was shot slump to the ground, crashing hard down. Camilla cried harder, her body shaking violently now. Her cries were uncontrollable, as she threw her head back and yelled louder. She heard someone walking slowly to her. She tried to crawl away if she could, but everything hurt too much. She saw a light, and tried crawling out, as she heard the f ootsteps going slower, but louder, every time it moved closer. Camilla realized she had made it all the way into the opening of the cave. There were many shrubs and trees and boulders in every area, and she realized that this cave was in the middle of the forest. A full moon was glowing bright ahead, and she cried. Her heart stopped, and she froze. She saw a shadow coming out of the cave. Oh my God, Camilla thought, as she shook violently again, her hands hugging her waist, as she stood on her knees. This is what it has come to. Haden will execute me or he shall capture me as his Bride. Haden has turned fanatical. Oh, woe is me! Haden did come out. Camillaââ¬â¢s hand flew to her mouth as she saw what she had not expected. A dark red circle was on the front if his shirt. Blood trickled from the corner of his mouth. He walked slowly towards her, his hand against his chest, soaked in the blood. He fell forward, crashing to the ground. Camilla screamed and crawled towards him. â⠬Å"Haden?â⬠She turned him on his back, and saw Hadenââ¬â¢s eyes, once dark and full of passion and mystery, now glazed over lifelessly as he stared at the sky. ââ¬Å"Haden, talk to me,â⬠Camilla urged, a note of panic in her voice. ââ¬Å"Haden, what happened?â⬠Haden turned his head to look at her, and smiled. His beautiful smile had blood all over it. ââ¬Å"I tried to save you.â⬠ââ¬Å"How?â⬠Camilla cried. ââ¬Å"What happened?â⬠ââ¬Å"We were at the castle,â⬠Haden spoke. ââ¬Å"You got hurt. Cristofer and his gang tried to hurt all of us. Meaning Seth, you and I. We escaped through the tunnel, leading into the cave. You were unconscious, and I wanted to stay with you. Seth didnââ¬â¢t. ââ¬Å"We then argued. I told him I wanted to stay, because, well, because I loved you. He then said I couldnââ¬â¢t because he loved you. He was lying. He tried to trick us because, Camilla, he was a vampire too, like usâ⬠¦ only one of Cristo ferââ¬â¢s gang. ââ¬Å"I fought with him and tried to get him away from you. I think I snapped his neck, somewhere, which should have killed him right away, but I guess it took a while, at least a minute. And in that minute he got a gun out and shot me.â⬠Tears stung at Camillaââ¬â¢s eyes, and she let them fall. They fell on Hadenââ¬â¢s wound. He cried, and Camilla moved a bit away. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m sorry.â⬠Haden smiled at her, shaking his head, pulling her close again. ââ¬Å"No, noâ⬠¦ I want them to fall. That way a part of you will always be apart of me.â⬠Camilla smiled, but still the tears fell. ââ¬Å"Please donââ¬â¢t go, Haden,â⬠she whispered. ââ¬Å"Please donââ¬â¢t go. You canââ¬â¢t. You canââ¬â¢t die.â⬠Haden smiled. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s alright. Iââ¬â¢ll always be with you, in spirit.â⬠Camilla moaned, clutching her heart. ââ¬Å"No, Haden! Donââ¬â¢t you get it? You canââ¬â¢t do that because we have no soul. Vampires donââ¬â¢t have souls!â⬠Haden chuckled. ââ¬Å"Oh, we may not have souls, Cami. But we sure as hell have hearts.â⬠He chuckled again, but felt his heart slowing. Camilla felt it too. ââ¬Å"Oh, Hadenâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ she cried. Haden laughed again. ââ¬Å"Life is hard.â⬠Camilla tried to smile, but that hurt. ââ¬Å"Compared to what?â⬠Haden smiled. ââ¬Å"Cami?â⬠Camilla nodded. ââ¬Å"Yeah?â⬠ââ¬Å"Do you love me?â⬠ââ¬Å"Yeah, Haden,â⬠she replied, swallowing. ââ¬Å"I love you, so much, dear, dear Haden.â⬠Haden laughed again. ââ¬Å"Cami?â⬠Camilla bit her lip, as tears fell down, her heart screaming from the hurt. ââ¬Å"Y-yeah?â⬠ââ¬Å"Did you know that I loved you? Not just because youââ¬â¢re beautiful, or artistic, or smart, or graceful, or compassionate, or independent, or any of that. But because of the time when I got my foot stuck in a tree, you called the ambulance for me. Or that other time when Austin broke his leg you stayed with him all day just to watch CSI shows and eat soup. Or when Marcus and Nicholas were being jerks and selfish and pretending to be better and going around school and bullying people, you made that wonderful poem saying how everyone was equal which totally changed them. Or when Gene forgot to write her English paper, you stayed up with her all night just to help her finish it. You see, Cami, I think youââ¬â¢re most beautiful when you care for people, or teach them, or help them. You always do that because youââ¬â¢re just a caring person. And do you want to know what else?â⬠Cami nodded, as she bit hard on her lower lip, and the blood seeped through her mouth. ââ¬Å"I love you for all of those things. And I know for sure that youââ¬â¢re going to become an angel when you die, because angels are beautiful, caring creatures, and youââ¬â¢re one of them, Cami. A beautiful and caring creature.â⬠He breathed in harshly. ââ¬Å"Ahâ⬠¦ Cami, it wonââ¬â¢t be long now. Iââ¬â¢m surprised Iââ¬â¢m actually still alive. I should be dead by now.â⬠Cami shook her head. ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t say that. Maybe you wonââ¬â¢t die. You have to be hit in the heart after all.â⬠Haden smiled, but it was a grim one. ââ¬Å"This bullet was tipped in holy water and garlic powder. I felt it running through my veins and entering my heart. Or maybe all that pain was because I finally found out that you loved me too, and I feel so happy for it.â⬠Cami shook her head, her eyes widened. ââ¬Å"Oh, no Haden! Iââ¬â¢ve always loved you. You just seemed soâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ ââ¬Å"Arrogant and juvenile?â⬠Haden offered, with a smile on his sad face. Cami nodded. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m sorry, Haden.â⬠Haden raised a hand, as if to silence her. He felt heavy, and his breathing her heavily. ââ¬Å"N-noâ⬠¦ Iâ⬠¦ Iâ⬠¦ itââ¬â¢s not your fault, Cami. Iââ¬â¢m just sorry that youââ¬â¢ll feel sad when Iââ¬â¢m gone. But you have to remember, that God is a caring person, just like you. I have a good feeling he will allow me to come up there, ââ¬Ëcause just because you think you may not have a soul, doesnââ¬â¢t exactly mean thatââ¬â¢s true.â⬠Cami looked up as a rain drop fell against her face. She looked down at Haden who was smiling at her. ââ¬Å"Is that a rain drop or a tear?â⬠Cami cried. Haden suddenly pulled himself up, using all of his energy. Cami sat beside him, crouching over on her knees and she stared at him. He suddenly touched the sides of her face, gently, as he pulled her close, their heads touching. Camillaââ¬â¢s pulse quickened. Haden parted his lips, and thenâ⬠¦ he kissed her. It was a gentle, soulful kiss. Camilla wrapped her arms around his neck, holding him close. She never wanted to let go, and she didnââ¬â¢t want Haden to go. The kiss was sensual and slow, it seemed like it lasted forever, which Camilla hoped it would. It was so deep that she felt like she lost her self in it. The world seemed to disappear and time stood still. It was as if everything melted away to nothingness, and there was just the two of them. The rain pattered against them and the Earth. Haden pulled away, feeling his heart tighten. ââ¬Å"Cami?â⬠Cami cried louder. ââ¬Å"Oh my god, Haden, please, donââ¬â¢t go! I love you so much! Please, I beg of you. Donââ¬â¢t go!â⬠ââ¬Å"Cami?â⬠Haden asked again, and sighed, letting his head fall against the gentle, wet grass. ââ¬Å"Valediction.â⬠Cami couldnââ¬â¢t hold it in longer. She screamed and cried as she raised her head and stared into the sky, the rain pouring against her face. She pounded the Earth and fell down, lying on her back. She rolled onto her stomach and screamed into the ground. She breathed in, and screamed louder as she realized it hurt to breathe living without Haden. Actually, it hurt to live without Haden. She choked as she heard someone behind. Was Haden alive? She turned around only to stare into the eyes of Nicholas, Nicola, Adrian, Marcus, Austin and Gene. They all stared sadly down at Camilla. Gene pulled her up, and Nicola hugged her. Marcus patted her back as Austin and Adrian lifted up Haden. Nicholas murmured, ââ¬Å"Oh my Godâ⬠¦ Hadenâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ The seven of them, eight including the departed Haden, all headed back towards Camillaââ¬â¢s house. Camilla then stopped. Everyone turned to look at her. ââ¬Å"Camilla?â⬠Gene called. Camilla shook her head, and turned around, running as fast as she could, through the cold night air. **** Camilla didnââ¬â¢t know where she was going. She just wished she could go where she knew. Where she knew Haden would be. She ran over a river that after being polluted so much had turned yellowish green. Then she came to big piles and clumps of dark brown dirt, and almost fell into it. She cried harder until she got to a dark forest, and running through where the trees stood tall and bare, and the grass was a dark green. Finally she came to a large meadow that seemed pale green in the moonlight. She realized she couldnââ¬â¢t run anymore, and stopped, slowing crouching down and lying on the soft grass, tears flooding her face. She gasped, choked, and cried harder. She swallowed, and gasped again. She suddenly felt another present coming close to her. She tried to hide her head beneath a pile of weeds and a very tall area of grass that had not been hacked down. She heard the figure breathing, but normal breathing, only more heavier, like a manââ¬â¢s. She forced herself to turn her head ever so slightly to see who it was. Her heart did a little back flip, and she forgot how to breathe, but only for a second. Cristofer Cardei stood above her. He seemed, almost, uncertain of something. Maybe making second thoughts of killing her, perhaps? His usually smooth black hair was tousled, and his bright blue eyes were bloodshot. Camilla gulped, looking up at the once sophisticated and feared Cristofer, son of the terrible Great Count Cardei. He attempted a smile down at Camilla. ââ¬Å"Heyâ⬠¦ whatââ¬â¢s up?â⬠Camilla said nothing, just stared. Cristofer looked away. ââ¬Å"Um, I just wanted to sayâ⬠¦ sorry.â⬠ââ¬Å"Ha!â⬠Camilla laughed loud. Cristofer raised a brow. ââ¬Å"For what happened to Hadenâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ Camilla nodded, looking away too. Then she shook her head, and stood up. ââ¬Å"Shut up. Shut the hell up, you psycho! Youâ⬠¦ monster! I hate you, and this is your entire fault that Haden is dead! Youââ¬â¢re a murderer!â⬠Now it was Cristoferââ¬â¢s turn to be angry. ââ¬Å"What? I donââ¬â¢t think Iââ¬â¢m the one that shot him! It was that idiot Sethââ¬â¢s fault. You knowâ⬠¦ your boyfriend?â⬠Camilla shook her head, turning away. Her voice was cold. ââ¬Å"Heââ¬â¢s not my boyfriend. Heââ¬â¢s not even my friend.â⬠ââ¬Å"Which is, of course, opposed to Haden?â⬠Cristofer smirked. Camilla sighed, and walked away, but Cristofer yelled, ââ¬Å"Wait, Iââ¬â¢m sorry!â⬠Camilla turned around and walked slowly back. ââ¬Å"Say that again?â⬠Cristofer muttered, ââ¬Å"Oh, donââ¬â¢t get me started. Iââ¬â¢m sorry, all right? I guess, yeah, I loved powerâ⬠¦ but I am definitely not a murdererâ⬠¦ Iââ¬â¢m nothing like my idiotic father.â⬠Now Camilla was very confused. ââ¬Å"What? I thought you would give your life up to be exactly like old Daddy. Guess I was wrong?â⬠Cristofer laughed. ââ¬Å"Guess you were. Nah, I hated him to death. I just craved power so much I kind of became a bully. But never a murderer. I can promise you that.â⬠Camilla looked down. ââ¬Å"But how can I really trust you, Cristofer?â⬠Cristofer shrugged. ââ¬Å"You canââ¬â¢t. But you could try.â⬠Camilla sighed. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s just soâ⬠¦ hard. To trust, I meanâ⬠¦ for everything. This world has turned so cruel and hopeless that you can barely try to love again.â⬠Cristofer lifted her chin, looking into her eyes. ââ¬Å"Itââ¬â¢s hard to trust, I know, to do any of those things. But if everything was easy, could anyone get anywhere in life? Could we all truly succeed? And yeah, the world is cruel and hopeless, but youââ¬â¢ve just got to make it not cruel and hopeful. ââ¬ËCause when one person makes a difference everything can change. You have to make the love for yourself, Camilla. ââ¬ËCause where thereââ¬â¢s darkness, this is always light.â⬠Camilla gaped at him. ââ¬Å"You know, I never knew how deep you were. Kind of reminds of Haden. Itââ¬â¢s so sad without him.â⬠Cristofer nodded. ââ¬Å"Hey, Camilla?â⬠Camilla nodded. ââ¬Å"Yeah, Cristofer?â⬠Cristofer laughed. ââ¬Å"Just call me Cris. Anyhow, Camilla? Could we be friends?â⬠Camilla smiled. ââ¬Å"Yeah, sure Cris. Why do you ask? What about your gang?â⬠Cristofer shook his head. ââ¬Å"Theyââ¬â¢re not my gang. Theyââ¬â¢re not even my friends. In fact, Iââ¬â¢d have to say youââ¬â¢re the first.â⬠Camilla looked down. ââ¬Å"Really?â⬠Cristofer nodded. He smiled at her, and Camilla actually saw a light shine in his eyes. The bloodiness seemed to be gone, and they shone like two crystal diamonds. ââ¬Å"Thanks, Camilla. Haden was right. You really a good and compassionate person.â⬠Camilla smiled back. ââ¬Å"When did he say that?â⬠Cristofer rolled his eyes. ââ¬Å"Long ago, when he I used to hang around. He said that everyone time you left. It got kind of annoying. But to him, it was like he was speaking about love, and what a beautiful and wonderful thing it was. In fact, I think he actually referred to you as love.â⬠Camilla swallowed, as tears filled her eyes. But she smiled. ââ¬Å"Yeah. He was a good guy.â⬠ââ¬Å"He still is,â⬠Cristofer said. Camilla smiled. ââ¬Å"Yeahâ⬠¦ because heââ¬â¢s angel.â⬠Cristofer laughed. ââ¬Å"Yeah. I think Haden proved that to us all.â⬠Cristofer then stopped. He leaned close to Camilla. ââ¬Å"You know, Camilla. Iââ¬â¢ve heard of God actually giving vampires another chance. The good ones, I mean. Like, they can become human, once they died.â⬠Camilla frowned. ââ¬Å"Hmm? Right, like thatââ¬â¢s true. Iââ¬â¢m just going to accept the fact that Haden is an angel. Or a ghost. As long as heââ¬â¢s resting in peace and not getting burned up in some flames of hell.â⬠Cristofer smiled. ââ¬Å"Yeahâ⬠¦ letââ¬â¢s hope.â⬠Camilla smiled, nudging him. ââ¬Å"We should, because someone told me that there is always hope. In this case, Iââ¬â¢m pretty sure he was right.â⬠Cristofer laughed. ââ¬Å"Iââ¬â¢m pretty sure too.â⬠Camilla sighed. ââ¬Å"Yeahâ⬠¦ thereââ¬â¢s always hope.â⬠And as she looked at the dark sky she saw a star glimmer in the distance. That star reminded a lot of the gleam she would always miss seeing in Hadenââ¬â¢s eyes. Camilla smiled, thinking of him. ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s always hope,â⬠she murmured to herself. ââ¬Å"We should always trust in those words.â⬠And she did.
